How it's made

How your belt is made

Every belt goes through 7 or 8 phases in our workshop, depending on the build, from the artwork to the final check. The workshop has been making belts for over a decade.

See how it's made

  1. Design and artwork The design is drawn or adapted, and logos and lettering are prepared as artwork for the plates.

  2. Cutting the plates Brass plates are cut and engraved to the design, or CNC-machined for finer detail. For cast and HD builds, zinc alloy plates are cast in a mould made for the design instead.

  3. Engraving and detailing The design is engraved into the plates, and the detail is finished by hand.

  4. Polishing Edges are cleaned and the plates are polished.

  5. Gold electroplating A thin layer of real 24K gold is electroplated onto the plates. The belt is not solid gold. When 24K gold electroplating is chosen or included

  6. Colour filling Coloured areas of the design are filled with colour.

  7. The leather strap The cowhide strap is cut to shape, finished and fitted with its snaps.

  8. Assembly, final check and packing The plates are fixed to the strap, the belt is checked against the order, and it is packed for courier dispatch.

How long does a belt take?

Under normal conditions most belts are made in 5–6 working days, then delivered by courier in up to 5 working days, anywhere in the world. For a custom design, the clock starts when you approve the design. These are estimates, not guarantees.

Who makes the belts?

Our own workshop, which has been making belts for over a decade. The craftspeople at each stage come from families that have done this kind of work for generations. MS Belts is a brand of Qelv LLC, registered in Wyoming, USA.

Is shipping free?

Yes. Every order ships free worldwide by courier (UPS, FedEx or DHL) with tracking.

We prepay import duties (DDP), so there are no customs charges to pay on delivery.

What are the plates made of?

Brass is the standard plate metal. On custom belts the SD build has brass plates cut and engraved to the design, the CNC build has brass plates CNC-machined for finer detail, and the HD build has zinc alloy plates cast in a mould made for the design and finished by hand, for the deepest 3D relief. On catalogue belts, cast zinc alloy is +$100. Plates are 2 mm thick as standard, and 3, 4 or 5 mm add $50 for each extra millimetre. The strap is cowhide leather.

Will the belt fit?

The strap is about 50 to 51 inches (127 to 130 cm) long with a snap closure and several snap positions. That is the length of the whole strap, not a waist size. Email us the wearer's measurement and we will confirm the fit before you order.

Can I put my own names or logo on a belt?

Yes. Name plate engraving can be added on belt pages that offer it. For a logo or a fully custom design, use the belt builder or email support@msbelts.com for a quote. Nothing is made until you approve the design.

Can I return a belt?

Every belt is made to order, so we do not accept change-of-mind returns. You can cancel free of charge within 24 hours of ordering. If your belt arrives damaged, faulty or not as ordered, email support@msbelts.com with photos within 14 days of delivery and we will repair it, replace it or refund it.

Are these belts officially licensed?

No. MS Belts is an independent workshop. We are not affiliated with, licensed by or endorsed by any sports or entertainment organisation.

How is a belt made?

Every belt goes through 7 or 8 phases, depending on the build: design and artwork, cutting the plates (or casting them in a mould), engraving and detailing, polishing, gold electroplating when you choose it, colour filling, the leather strap, and assembly with a final check.
